Wickenburg Ranch Golf & Social Club (855) 878-4739
Arizona golf course review
Wickenburg Ranch Golf Club is part of an upscale community featuring various styles of luxury homes and one of a kind amenities, The course, situated in a desert mountain
setting, features spectacular views of the Prescott National Forest, as well as of Vulture Peak. The rolling terrain features considerable elevation changes from tee to green, with
manicured fairways, landscaped desert areas, beautiful water hazards, and challenging green complexes that feature bent grass year round.
On property is a spectacular clubhouse with a pro shop and adjacent bar and snack area – a great convenience for golfers. What separates the clubhouse from many others, is
the spacious upscale restaurant and lounge with outdoor patio featuring gorgeous golf course and desert mountain vistas. Adjacent is a well appointed banquet and outing facility.
Besides the championship course (often referred to as "Big Wick", there also is a beautiful 9-hole par three that plays to between 663 and 1240 yards). Practice facilities include a
targeted driving range, short game area and putting green. The final 4 holes of the "Lil Wick" and the putting green are lit for night play!
The championship course features 4 tee areas that play to distances and slopes measuring 7059 yards/139 slope, 6486 yards/134 slope, 6022 yards/126 slope (ideal for the
average golfer), and 4912 yards with a slope of 121 for women and 109 for men from the front sets. There are often ample landing zones off the tee, though desert and water
carries abound. The green complexes are wonderfully manicured, and with the tiers and undulations, it is advisable to aim for the flag on the approach. The pin placement system
includes rotation to 3 different areas, so be sure to check those placements before heading out. There is a large stake planted in the fairways of all par fours and fives – this is not
a 150 stake…but rather a useful directional device.
Water comes into play on four holes, and there are 63 sand bunkers of various shapes and sizes situated near the landing zones on the fairways or located greenside. What stood
out to us overall (besides the surrounding beauty and significant landscaping) was that this is a first class facility – from the quality of the clubhouse facilities, to the design and
conditioning of the course. The staff and superintendent obviously provide great attention to detail. Golf-wise – the biggest challenge is to maneuver the green complexes - there
are plentiful opportunities for challenging pin placements. On our visit, the course was set up for a member event, and we had our hands full trying to avoid 3 putts.
Please pay attention to the directions provided on their website. Click on this link and scroll to the bottom http://www.wickenburgranch.com/contact/ Our GPS led us astray as we
neared the property – so be diligent with directions. We highly recommend this course! It is without question worth the drive from Phoenix, which is a bit longer than 1 hour. For
