Superstition Mountain Golf Club- Lost Gold

General Information

Superstition Mountain in Mesa is a first class golf facility that has traditionally been a private country club, and is now open for limited public play with the two courses rotating play for members and the general public. This is great news for locals and visiting players - as these two designs present some of the most memorable golf experiences in the greater Phoenix-Scottsdale area. Conditioning from tee to green is maintained meticulously by a team of agronomists and caretakers dedicated to making a round here a memorable experience. The property has hosted several professional tournaments, including the LPGA Safeway International from 2004-2008, the 2002 Countrywide Tradition (Champions Tour) and the 2002 Senior Slam.

The gorgeous upscale clubhouse features a well stocked pro shop, restaurant/lounge featuring several areas with outdoor patio seating, plus locker rooms and showers for members and guests. The practice facilities are very comprehensive beginning with a spacious, targeted grass range with beautiful mountain backdrop, short game with sand bunker plus putting greens.

Service is also top notch both off course and on. There are rock markers on the cart paths of all par fours and fives at 100, 150 and 200 yards (250 on par fives), and sprinkler heads on the fairways are measured to the front and center of the green. Scorecards have plus or minus measurements for pin placements from the center of each green.

LOST GOLD - the images in this photo are of the Lost Gold Course.

Lost Gold is a Jack Nicklaus/Jack Nicklaus II design that opened in 1999, and features a links style layout with water in play on just one hole, but with 88 soft sand bunkers that will challenge the skills of all levels of players. Golfers can choose from 5 sets of tees that play to distances and slopes measuring 7351 yards/140 slope, 6738 yards/134 slope, 6297 yards/127 slope for men and 138 for women, 5711 yards/ 133 slope for women, and 5373 yards with a slope of 131 for ladies hitting from the forward sets.

This layout winds through a gorgeous residential community, with numerous carries over landscaped desert areas and washes – both off the tees and on approaches. Skilled golfers will have all they can handle from the tips…this course looks very different and is a great challenge from the back tees. From the white tees, Lost Gold is very playable for the average golfer. There are a few elevated tees and several interesting doglegs that lead to sloping green complexes with mildly undulating Champion Bermuda putting surfaces.

Now that superstition Mountain is semi private - we highly recommend this - in fact it is a must play for visiting golfers. Call for a tee time - it really does not matter which course is available in the rotation - they are both lush and gorgeous, with spectacular mountain and desert vistas.
