HILCREST GOLF CLUB (623-584-1500)
Arizona Golf Course Review
Hillcrest Golf Club is a 7000 yard championship design with open fairways bordered by native trees and considerable lakes and ponds. Though water is constantly present, the
hazard themselves are on the perimeter, affording ample landing areas off the tee and on approaches. There is plentiful bunkering however (78 in total), both greenside and along
the fairways.
The five sets of tees at Hillcrest play to 7002 yards/126 slope, 6590 yards/13 slope, 6281 yards/116 slope, 5864 yards/113 slope and 5512 yards with a slope rating of 120 for
women playing from the forward tees. As the ratings indicate, this is a playable golf experience for all levels of golfers. The clubhouse features a pro shop plus a snack area that
serves hot and cold sandwiches and beverages.
The John Jacobs Golf School is on property, and operates from the back end of the Hillcrest practice facility, which includes a grass range and putting/chipping green. Lessons
and golf schools of various lengths are available. On course there are yardage markers posted on the cart paths and fairways at 100, 150 and 200 yards, and 150 yard stakes
double as directional devices.
The green complexes are a mixed bag with some level and medium in size, while others are huge and sloped or double tiered. Approaches will vary as some complexes a
completely open in front, while others are well bunkered. Price wise, this is a value round, and on our visit the conditioning was very good for a course in this $50-$70 price range.
