COPPER CANYON GOLF CLUB at Festival Ranch (928-252-6783)
Arizona Golf Course Review
Copper Canyon Golf Club in Buckeye (northwest of Sun City) is a Troon managed 18-hole championship course featuring wide manicured fairways surrounded by landscaped
desert areas that play through an upscale residential community. The tee boxes are often sculpted out of desert areas but this layout features limited carries off the tee with
spacious landing zones - making for an experience that levels of players can enjoy.
There are a variety of green complexes, with Tif Dwarf putting surfaces ranging from fairly flat to multi tiered. Pronounced mounding and strategic bunkering often frame the greens
, creating some interesting up and down situations for those approaches that miss to the sides or behind. In total there are 63 soft sand bunkers situated about the course, and
water hazards come into play on 8 holes - mostly on the perimeters.
On course yardage markers posted on sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green and 150 yard stakes also serve as directional devices on all par fours and fives.
Color coded flags indicate front, middle and back hole locations, and the "Sky Caddie" GPS is also available.
The clubhouse features a pro shop plus the Indigo Grill - open for breakfast items, with lunch, beverages and snacks on the menu as well. Practice facilities are comprehensive,
and include a targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker, plus putting green.
There are 4 sets of tee boxes that are fairly evenly interspersed, with the tips playing to a 127 at 6845 yards. Alternate sets measure in distance and slope 6399 yards/124 slope,
5945 yards/116 slope for men and 119 for women, and 5308 yards with a slope of 109 for ladies hitting from the forward tees. As these ratings indicate, this is a women friendly
design, and is also a fair test for mid and high handicappers. There is enough trouble from the back tees to challenge even the best of players.
Copper Canyon is a beautiful golf facility with wonderful conditioning and service, and is value priced with extremely reasonable rates all year long ($80 including cart prime time in
2007!). for more info, visit our page for the property, with link to their website by clicking here.
