General Information
A golf experience at the Wigwam Golf Resort & Spa in Litchfield - northwest of Phoenix/Scottsdale,
features three championship courses which are the centerpiece of a full scale luxury resort. Golf stay and play packages can be booked through the resort, which provides upscale accommodations, a full
service Red Door Spa, and all the amenities, recreational opportunities and dining experiences worthy
of a classic resort. The golf club recently completed over 5 million dollars in renovations, restoring the grandeur to its two signature courses - the Gold and Blue, and developing one of the southwest's
premier practice facilities. For more info on the resort, click here to visit the Wigwam website.
The original layout at Wigwam was designed in the 1930's, and the current layouts remain true to traditional golf, with generous fairways flanked and crossed by canals, lakes and streams that provide
both challenge and aesthetics. The Blue and Gold are Robert Trent Jones designs, and together with the more recently designed Red Course, provide 54 holes of pure golf that offer diversity and
playability that separate this resort from others in the state. With the renovations came the addition of
the Wigwam Golf University that includes the Jim McLean golf School. Practice facilities include a 350
foot wide duel ended driving range, target greens, and three separate greens for putting, chipping and pitching. Dubbed the "Village Green", this facility is state of art and is among the largest most
meticulously maintained in Arizona.
The clubhouse at Wigwam features a full service golf shop offering the finest in golf apparel and equipment, with a staff that is expert at organizing and servicing corporate and group outings. There is
an adjacent restaurant that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
RED COURSE
The Red Course is the creation of designer Red Lawrence, and is the latest course to be built on Wigwam property. This par 72 layout compliments the Blue and Gold layouts as it plays alongside
streams and ponds, with forests of pines and eucalyptus trees defining the estate lined fairways. Three sets of tees here play to distances and slopes measuring 6852 yards/126 slope, 6291 yards/118
slope and 5806 yards with a slope of 118 for women hitting from the front tees.
Large undulating greens await approaches from tree lined fairways, with hole location information for
each putting complex provided for by pin placement cards that are posted on each scorecard. 100, 150 and 200 yard markers are located on the fairways and cart paths of all par fours and fives, and the
tee boxes on all par threes also have measurements to the center of the green. The course opens fairly
, as golfers should be able to score well on four of the first five holes - which are handicapped # 9, 15,
11 and 17. The finale is tough however, featuring two challenging par fours and daunting par five sandwiching a # 16 handicapped par three. There are 61 sand bunkers situated on the course, and
water hazards come into play on 5 holes.
The red course presents a fair yet challenging resort golf experience. Great stay and play packages featuring this course along with the Blue and Gold are available. For more information on the golf
course, visit our page for the property, with direct link to the Wigwam website by clicking here.
