RED MOUNTAIN RANCH COUNTRY CLUB (480-985-0285)
Arizona Golf Course Review
Good News! Red Mountain Ranch Country Club in Mesa - formerly a private club, is now open for limited public play. Designed by Pete Dye, this
masterpiece is a 6,653 yard championship layout that features wide manicured fairways and contoured green complexes. The signature Dye railroad ties
are a significant feature in the greenside bunkers and surrounding mounds.
The course presents gorgeous mountain vistas along with native desert landscape, saguaro cactus, mesquite trees and beautiful water features. The
raised green complexes with sloping putting surfaces demand accurate approach shots, but golfers should be able to find the ample fairways off the tee.
Uniquely, there are 7 sets of tee boxes with distances and slopes measuring 6653 yards/146 slope, 6389 yards/144 slope, 6034 yards/136 slope, 5597
yards/129 slope for men and 131 for women, 5347 yards/124 slope fro men and 128 for women, 5106 yards/125 slope for women and 4796 yards with a
slope of 122 for ladies hitting from the forward tees.
Water comes into play on six holes and there are 58 soft sand bunkers situated near the landing zones or greenside. The playing surfaces are undulating
with desert areas or upscale residences bordering the sides. Golfers will find yardage markers on the cart paths every 25 yards from 200 (250 on par fives
) to 100 yards, and 150 yard stakes also function as directional devices. Sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green and color coded flags
indicate the day's front, middle or back hole locations.
The clubhouse is upscale and features member locker rooms with showers, a well stocked pro shop, plus restaurant/lounge. The surrounding landscape is
about as good as it gets. Practice facilities include a targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker plus large putting green.
There is significant mounding near the greens, which means golfers will have to have a good short game to score well here. A variety of wedges will be
needed to convert up and down opportunities. Memorable holes include the par three 6th with water on 3 sides, the par three 11th with water to the right
and behind, and the beautiful closing hole, a short par four with a wood walled pond fronting the green. For more info, visit our page fro the course with
