PAINTED MOUNTAIN GOLF CLUB (480-832-0156)
Arizona Golf Course Review 12/16/05
Painted Mountain Golf Club on McKellips Road in Mesa is an 18-hole championship course featuring great conditions and excellent value. The property boasts resort style amenities including fine dining and
entertainment (karaoke bar) at the Grandview Restaurant & Lounge (open from 6:30 am to 9 pm daily for
breakfast, lunch and dinner & Sunday Brunch), an extensive pro shop plus Trends Sport Boutique, and also is home to a John Jacobs Golf School.
Red Mountain in Mesa forms the backdrop for the golf facilities, which include a targeted grass range,
putting green and a new short game area with sand bunkers. The extensive short game area facilitates
the 3-Day Playing and 2 or 3 Day Short Game (weekday and weekend) Schools that help golfers achieve confidence in the play from 100 yards in. Information on these programs is available on the
Painted Mountain website (link in the last paragraph of this review)
The golf course is player friendly with just 17 sand bunkers located along the layout, mostly greenside.
Water plays a significant role as hazards come into play on 7 holes on the front nine and on 6 holes on
the back. Most are on the perimeter off the tee or on the approach, though there are several carries.
With three sets of tee boxes, beginners will find this course suitable. The blue tips play to 6021 yards
with a 108 slope rating, the whites 5329 yards and a slope of 102 for men and 113 for women, and the
front red tees measure 4682 yards with a slope of 103. More experienced golfers will find a challenge in water hazards coming into play off of the tees and near the greens.
The course includes colored distance markers in the middle of the fairway and on the cart path at 100, 150 and 200 yards. The fairways also include a black and white 150 yard marker that also doubles as a
directional device. The pin placement is marked by red (front) white (middle) and blue (back) flags on
the greens. Golfers exhibiting accurate iron play can score well here, as the green complexes feature few bunkers, and most play fairly level to the fairways.
Pricing at Painted Mountain is value oriented year round. For more information on the golf course, visit our page for the property, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
