OAKCREEK COUNTRY CLUB (928-284-1660)
Arizona Golf Course Review
Oak Creek Country Club is host the Sedona Open every year. In December of 2022 it hosted an Asian Q School - the first time it was ever held in the United States.
Preview/Review
Oak Creek Country club is a beautifully laid tract designed by Robert Trent Sr. & Jr. Their acumen in the use of the natural terrain and spectacular scenery of Sedona certainly
shows here. The layout is both challenging and enjoyable for players of all skill levels. Upscale amenities are availble in the clubhouse which features a pro shop, locker rooms
with showers, a restaurant/lounge and banquet/special event facilities.
The practice facilities here are extremely comprehensive, with a putting and chipping green conveniently located adjacent to the clubhouse. An Expansive range with target areas,
another huge practice green, and a short game area with sand bunker are also located just across the street on the way to the opening hole. On the course golfers will discover
that the 100, 150 and 200 yard blocks that are measured to the center of the green also provide measurements to the front and back. The cart paths have permanent markers and
corresponding red, white and blue stakes are situated on the opposite side of the fairways - providing the best system available. Pin placements are indicated to the front, middle
and back by red, white and blue flags on the greens.
Oakcreek provides 5 sets of tee boxes that are quite evenly dispersed in intervals of nearly 400 yards. The blacks measure 6824 with a 112 slope, the blues 6353/125 slope, the
whites 5965/120 slope for men and 134 for women, the golds measure 5557 yards with 111 slope for men and 129 slope for women, and the teals 4419/101 for men and 114
slope for women. The terrain is mostly level, with some mild undulations are the fairways and greens - which by the way were in remarkable condition on our visit. The
uniqueness of this layout in comparison with the other courses in this area is the relatively flat terrain - but also the tree lined fairways that will demand accuracy as well as length.
This tract was designed by Robert Trent Sr. and Robert Trent Jr. and their vision and acumen at utilizing natural terrain in their layouts certainly shows here. Additionally, many of
the holes play right up against the beautiful red rock mountains of Sedona, which provide incredible backdrops and make the course incredibly photogenic. The experience here
is serene and often breathtaking - as you can discern by the photos in this preview. We plan to visit again to provide a more accurate description of the course. For now, we hope
the photos here will do the course justice.
