MCCORMICK RANCH GOLF CLUB - Palm Course (480) 948-0260
Arizona Golf Course review
General information
McCormick Ranch Golf Club features two Desmond Muirhead-designed 18-hole championship courses, along with fine amenities that make this property one of the top golf
destinations in Scottsdale. The clubhouse features a gorgeous, fully stocked pro shop (recognized as one of the "Top 20 daily fee pro shops in the country" by Golf Operations
Magazine), locker rooms with showers, a wonderful restaurant open for breakfast and lunch (with an outdoor patio), plus banquet/outing facilities.
The courses are both over 7000 yards long, and are known for hosting the Arizona Amateur Stroke Play Championship, the Golf for Women National Championship, the Arizona
Open Professional Golf Tournament, and the National Junior College Golf Championship. On property are a spacious grass driving range, a bunkered chipping green, plus one of
Southwest Arizona's largest putting greens. McCormick Ranch has over 100 sets of club and shoe rentals, and the teaching staff is expertly trained.
Each of the two courses is well marked, with yardage indicators every 25 yards from 200 to 75 yards in. Uniquely, these fairway yardage blocks also provide measurements to the
front and back of the green as well. Color coded flags indicate front, middle and back pin placements on the medium sized, mildly undulating putting surfaces. Ice chests are
standard on all carts.
Palm Course
The Palm Course is lushly landscaped, with mature pines and palm trees lining the fairways. The ninth hole was picked by Golf Illustrated as "One of the USA's top 18 water
holes" due to its unique island fairway. As the photos in this review indicate, there are some spectacular mountain views - and the mix of palms and mountains provide a
wonderful aesthetic environment. 54 sand bunkers are located along the fairways or are situated beside the raised green complexes, and water comes in to play on 9 holes.
Four sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes measuring 7044 yards/137 slope, 6269 yards/130 slope, 5820 yards/123 slope for men and 126 for women, and 5057 yards
with a slope of 118 for ladies playing from the forward tees. The combination of tree lined fairways, sand and water hazards, plus some challenging green complexes make this
an enjoyable experience for all levels of players. The white tees are perfect for the mid-handicapper, and the tips will challenge the best of players. The brown tees are playable for
high handicappers and beginners, and our webmaster (Diana) found the front tees to be women friendly.
On our April visit (as well as during previous rounds), we found the conditions from tee to green at McCormick Ranch to be outstanding. The service is efficient and friendly, the
facilities are great, and the location cannot be much better. Both courses are traditional style layouts - which provide a contrast to the fine, challenging desert courses in the area.
We highly recommend a round (and breakfast or lunch) at either course at McCormick Ranch. For more info, visit our page for the Palm course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
