LEGEND TRAIL GOLF CLUB
Arizona Golf Course Review
Legend Trail Golf Club in North Scottsdale is a Rees Jones designed championship layout that is considered to
be one of the premier golf experiences in Arizona. This exquisitely manicured course captures the essence of
Sonoran style golf, as it meanders through the natural desert landscape that features outstanding vistas.
PinnaclePeak and other prominent landmarks form the backdrops on many holes.
Legend Trail plays challengingly from the tips at 6845 yards, as every hole presents a carry from the tees to the
fairways, with sculpted desert area in between. There are 59 sand bunkers located near the landing zones or
greenside, and water comes into play on just 1 hole - the short par five 7th, which doglegs left around a lake. The
fairways are generous enough however, that the course received the "Top 100 Fairways, Women-Friendly Course Award" in the 2000 issue of Golf For Women magazine.
On property is a beautiful clubhouse that features a 1900 square foot pro shop, stocked with brand name
apparel, affordable golf equipment and accessories. The Cantina at Legend Trail provides wonderful breakfast
and lunch menus that are influenced with a southwestern flair. A variety of soups, salads and sandwiches are
available, along with seasonal dishes and bar items. Outing and event facilities can accommodate up to 144
guests, with group and tournament coordinators ready to customize events from start to finish. Practice facilities
include a targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker, plus spacious putting green. A John
Jacobs/Shelby Futch Golf Academy is also on property, proving results-oriented experiences for all levels of
players. The Hot Sticks club fitting program is also available.
Five sets of tees provide golfers with opportunities to play to distances and slopes measuring 6845 yards/138
slope, 6400 yards/127 slope, 6055 yards/120 slope for men and 142 for women, 5465 yards/132 slope for
women and 4910 yards with s lope of 115 for ladies hitting from the forward tees.
The yardage marking system includes 150 yard stakes in the fairways and sprinkler heads that are measured to
the center of the green. Cart paths provide measurements at 100 and 200 yards, and an alternating pin
placement routine (front, middle, then back, etc) lets golfers know approximately where the holes are located.
The front nine at Legend trail is designed to let the golfer warm up gradually, as many of the opening holes play
along a fairly level terrain with ample fairways and room greenside. The back side plays along a more undulating
terrain with longer desert carries, and is tighter in nature - with low scores harder to come by. The green
complexes - which were updated to Ultra dwarf TifEagle in the summer of 2008 - are large and undulating, with
mounds and swales alongside that will challenge the short game abilities of all golfers. There are some elevated
tees and raised greens along this rolling terrain, which takes golfers through a gorgeous residential community.
This is a beautiful golf course with fine facilities and amenities - highly recommended by twoguyswhogolf.com.
Annual Passes and Loyalty Cards are available, providing nice discounts for those spending some time in the
area. For more information on the golf course, visit our page for the property, with direct link to the highly
