CAMELBACK GOLF CLUB - Indian Bend Course (480) 596 7050
Arizona golf course review
Camelback Golf Club is part of the nearby JW Marriott Camelback Resort, but both courses are open for public play. Several years ago, Indian Bend
(formerly Club Course) underwent a major facelift, and the Padre (formerly the Resort Course) was totally redesigned. The practice facility is as
comprehensive as you will find in the Scottsdale area. Facilities include a huge driving range, putting and chipping greens and practice bunker. A
beautifully designed clubhouse with restaurant, lounge, banquet center (for up to 300 people) and outdoor grill compliment what is now a first class
operation. Service at the bag drop, pro shop, starter booth and grill are top rate. For more info on the resort click on this link www.camelbackinn.com.
This is a highly recommended day of golf. Come early and work on your game. The GPS on each cart will provide you with course knowledge, and there
are also 100/150/200 yardage markers on the fairways. The 150-yard stake is a great target on many holes. Obviously, the folks here did their homework
when re-designing this property. If you are looking for the complete golf experience, you will not be disappointed at the Camelback Golf Club.
If you would like to spend a few hours practicing (and do not have a tee time that day), the Camelback has a reasonable rate for use of their practice
facility. This includes unlimited range balls, putting green, practice bunker and chipping greens. A few hours spent toning up your game at the beginning
or middle of your trip can make a huge difference in how you perform on the course. Call for directions and rates for public use of their practice facility.
The Indian Bend Course features 3 sets of tees that play to distances and slopes measuring 7014 yards/122 slope, 6486 yards/119 slope and 5808 yards
with a slope of 118 for golfers playing from the forward sets. There are 56 soft sand bunkers situated along the fairways or greenside and water comes
into play on just 3 holes.
On our fall visit the turf on the fairways, greens and tees had been over-seeded and the dormant rough created a nice aesthetic contrast. Golfers will
encounter plentiful palms and level, tree lined fairways plus very accessible green complexes. Those playing from the tips and White tees will have plentiful
opportunities to grip it and rip it. Avoid the fairway bunkers and low scores can be had here. Land on the mildly sloped putting surfaces in regulation and
you will be rewarded. This is a nice complement to the shorter and more strategic Padre Course.
