Arizona Golf Course Review 12/16/06
Arizona Traditions is a Dick Bailey designed 18-hole layout that is recognized as one of the most player
friendly courses in the Greater Phoenix area. This well maintained par-70 parkland design is built on a rolling terrain with outstanding views of the Tank Mountains. An abundance of mature trees and
undulating green complexes provide the challenge on a course that has a top slope rating of just 111.
This course is designed over a mildly rolling terrain that meanders through a residential community. Bunkering is understated with just 23 sand traps situated near the fairways or greenside. Desert areas
do come into play on many holes, but as the slope ratings indicate, this is a player friendly layout that can be enjoyed by all levels of golfers.
Water comes into play on several holes, but most fairways are quite ample, with generous landing zones off the tee and plentiful room near the greens. Mounds are often featured in the green complexes, and
the putting surfaces are medium in size and mildly sloped. Color coded flags indicate the front, middle or
back pin placements, and the fairways are marked with yardage blocks at 100, 150 and 200 yards. Par threes also have yardages posted to the center of the green
Golfers will generally encounter level lies, though perimeter mounding along this mildly rolling topography
can create some tricky approach shots. Facilities on property at Arizona Traditions include a grass range, 2 putting greens plus a short game area with sand bunker. The clubhouse features a pro shop
plus snack area with beverages, hot & cold sandwiches plus other lunch items.
